The Park was designed to safeguard a karst phenomenon, consisting of dolines and sinkholes. Precisely because of the existence of a large sinkhole so called Foxden (Tana della Volpe o dell’Orpe), real nodal point in which nature and history linked to the park combine, the Bric Tana was included among the areas protected by Italian Law n. 40 of 1977. In addition, in the immediate vicinity of this geological phenomenon, an archaeological site, which proved to be of primary importance at the national level, has been identified.

From the Sanctuary of the Desert you can reach the Three Kings’ Valley, a micro area that is part of the Park including two caves called “dell’Arma e dell’Armetta”.
