The Mallare Wood Museum was established in 2013 to collect, document and preserve, the peasant culture of a region closely connected to the woods, especially chestnut tree, their management and the care of the territory.

The exhibits donated by local people, together with models and representations, show the visitors the inhabitants daily life until not too long ago.

This Museum was created for explaining to the public how these objects work, their evolution over time, and how they were used by the inhabitants to utilize the resources of the territory.

Visiting the Museum also allows to learn about complex wood-use processes such as the charcoal mound (carbonaia), a heap of carefully selected and arranged wood, that is then covered with earth and ignited to produce charcoal after days of careful supervision and care.

The exhibition offers not only working tools used in the forests or fields but also, and above all, everyday objects, such as kitchen utensils or children’s toys.

The Museum, founded by the initiative of the municipal school entitled to Anna Maria Grenno, is located in the school building and aims to be a community centre of aggregation to understand the history of Mallare and its traditions.
